Finals, Bowl Games, and Christmas

Well I dropped off the face of the earth for a while. Finals. I ended up with a 3.55! I was hoping for a 3.7, didn't quite happen though. Oh well. The Women's Basketball team is good this year. This is a picture from their 11th win over Montana State. They are 11-2, with their only losses coming to Utah, and BYU. I would like to follow them for a photo story on the UV website.
I had a hard time waiting for the Bowl games to begin, but they finally came and the MWC has done well, at 3-1. My Cougars whooped up on the radio active Ducks (did you see those ugly helmets). BYU can hang with the Pac-10 Elite. Anyhow I'm somewhat excited for Christmas. I like to give gifts, but I don't like the fact that most seem to forget the true meaning of it all. Well I hope to get my portfolio website up here soon, we'll see. - Chad

Rotary Bowl

I love Dixie State football! It's usually better when they win, but now they are D2 it may take a while for the program to develop. I started my day early at 6:00 in the morning. I got up early to take early light pictures of the St. George Temple. After that I arrived at Hansen Stadium at 10:00 am. Game time was at noon, but I subscribe to the philosiphy "Arive early, Stay late." I walked around the field finding unusual shots and preping for gametime. It was nostalgic for me because only three years ago I began my sports photography career on the same field (with a Nikon Coolpix, I admit). I was on assignment for the athletic department so I knew they would need some photos for media guides. I tried to get some generic stuff. I have learned to shoot everything even if you only have a specific assignment. I got a couple that might work I hope.

I planned ahead and decided to carry a strobe with me so that I could use it at any time. I also kept my transmitter on my camera the whole time. I don't really like the canon trigger because it doesn't fire half the time. And if you're out in the sun you might get it to fire once out of five times. Nonetheless gear in hand I had fun shooting in the tunnel as the teams came in and out of the locker room. This is my favorite photo out of the bunch. I took maybe 35 while I had the chance.

As the game began I was stoked. I rented a 300mm/2.8 L series lens from Pictureline. I have shot once with a 400mm and loved it, but it was my first time with the three huni. I had a great day shooting and I even sold an image to the Durango Herald. I can't wait to get back down to shoot more DSC events!!!
